Meet the Doctor

Barry Rickman, VMD

I started Peaceful Companion because I wanted to provide quality of life even at the end of life. As friends and clients asked me to help their animals in the last phase of their lives, I realized there is a need for a service that would not only provide caring for the pet, but also support and education for the whole family.

I studied veterinary medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and completed a veterinary pathology residency/fellowship at the University of Washington. I have worked in small animal private practice, academia, in government and as a diagnostic pathologist. I have a strong knowledge of both clinical medicine and pathology. My family and I have lived in the Seattle area for over 6 years. Our Collie is the newest member of our family.

I am an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care (IAAHPC), Seattle-King County Veterinary Medical Association, and The American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
